Rafi B - War State
This track was the first time I really felt like I was moving in my own direction and no longer following in someone else's footsteps, which has always been important for me. Its not a happy song by any means, I wrote it in a pit of frustration at how my people were being treated. The song has to do predominantly with the War on Drugs in America, aka the War on men of color. It came out pretty bleak, thats where I was at the time. Essentially, I'm talking about this flip of morals from what might be seen as "standard"--hustlers living with the fear of the law, when they are only breaking that law because other options have not come their way. Meanwhile, others who have plenty of options seemingly perpetuate the cycle, without acknowledging their own part in that perpetuity.
