Interview With CutieGirlKayla

What drew you to the music industry?

My drive, my talent, and my desire to inspire is what drew me to the industry. At first I was hesitant, but a lot of people were there to encourage me to never settle and follow my heart.

Who are you inspired by?

I’m inspired by anybody who has a hustle. Seeing someone on their grind and putting in an effort with their life choices is inspirational to me, I can relate to that.

Please explain your creative process

My creative process is simple. I let my mood, my past situations, the rhythm of the beat, and the vibes around me stir my creative process. I have to feel it and put my heart into it if I’m going to be creative. When I create something, I like to take my time.

What’s an average day like for you?

I’m a very productive person, so I’m on go everyday. An average day for me starts with a morning workout because health is wealth. If I’m not working on my music then I’m working on the clock. I have to focus on my music everyday, whether it’s listening to beats, or writing, recording, or promoting..I’m working on the music day in and day out.

Is there a hidden meaning in any of your music?

There is no hidden meanings in my music because I say what I mean very clearly in my tracks. I want people to hear me and understand whatever message I’m trying to deliver.

Do you collaborate with others? What is that process?

I have done a couple collaborations and I’m always willing to work with different artist. The way that process works for me, I will record my verse and then I will send it over to the artist for approval. Once they tell me that they are comfortable with my verse I send over the files to be mixed.

Please discuss how you interact with and respond to fans

I’m thankful for every supporter that I have so every so often I will respond to a supporter by telling them a simple thank you or sometimes I may go a little in depth and throw in small talk. I don’t ignore anyone so I try to respond to as many as I can.

What is your favorite part about this line of work? Your least favorite? Why?

My favorite part in this line of work is the experience. I’m experiencing new people, new music, new goals, I’m also experiencing the grind. You get back what you put in, so I like the fact that I have to actually have dedication for this line of work. It’s nothing I don’t like about this line of work, I do come across negative people, but that’s with every aspect of life so I wouldn’t change anything.

Have you ever dealt with performance anxiety?

I use to be terrified at the thought of being on stage and performing. I was always nervous so I would hold back, but I knew that this was what I wanted to do and I also know that all great things starts out with fear and doubt. I never gave up, I’ve grown to be able to be comfortable on stage and I actually enjoy being on stage now.

Tell me about your favorite performance venues

I wouldn’t say I have a favorite performance venue. I look at every stage I step on as one of my favorites. I do like to perform in Atlanta, that would be my favorite area to perform at.

What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?

A piece of advice to anyone trying to follow my footsteps is to never give up and never settle. If it’s in your heart and it’s meant for you then don’t let anyone tear down something you’re building. And know that everything worth having takes time.
