What drew you to the music industry?
When I was in the 3rd grade I was already into music and singing. So I tried out for the singing class and got accepted. From then on I learned about music, chorus, choirs, instruments, music artist and pretty much everything associated with music. I started to perform, sing solos, and conduct performances for my peers. By the time I was in the 5th grade, I was selected to sing with the KING OF POP Michael Jackson at Radio City Music Hall for the 1995 MTV Video Music Awards. From that moment on I always knew I wanted to sing, perform and/or entertain.
Who are you inspired by?
I am musically inspired by Michael Jackson, Jay Z and Mariah Carey. My other inspirations are my late sisters because they showed me all genres of music from even before my time.
Please explain your creative process.
I like vibing to instrumentals in a quiet setting. I try to either hum or mumble out lyrics, hooks, or melodies, basically anything that comes to mind, while simultaneously jotting it down or recording the process.
What’s an average day like for you?
I basically use my day to network as much as possible. Another part of my daily routine is writing new material based off my own trials and tribulations because I pride myself in the fact that all my music is based off things I’m actually going through or things from my past.
Is there a hidden meaning in any of your music?
There are no real hidden meanings to any of my songs but if you listen close, I share a lot about my life. I can tell you though my label does have a hidden meaning lol
Do you collaborate with others? What is that process?
I do collaborate with others and it usually consists of either linking at the studio and/or different locations to share ideas. Sometimes, I may even write a song and send it to the collaborating artist with hooks and versus already recorded. From there they see what they like and dislike. Then we’ll make the proper adjustments needed and the rest is history. To name a few of my collaborations, I’ve collaborated with Oun-P who I’ve known since a kid from the neighborhood and also JuanYe a well known producer who has worked with many artist in the music industry and we met through my cousin which was pretty dope.
Please discuss how you interact with and respond to fans.
All my fans that I interact with whether it being on YouTube, social media, or just in person, I like to respond to all their comments and likes with love and positive feedback. I always show my appreciation and I definitely show all my fans the upmost respect.
What is your favorite part about this line of work? Your least favorite? Why?
My favorite part about this line of work is creating something from scratch and seeing where it goes from there. My least favorite part is paying for everything on my own due to being an independent artist. Then again, things will all pay off soon. You know what they say you must invest in yourself to become better. So, that’s exactly what I’m doing from now on moving forward.
Having you ever dealt with performance anxiety?
I’m actually going through that performance anxiety now since my performance is only a month away (August 23rd) at the Parlour Bar and Restaurant and I usually like all my plans that I set in motion perfected to the littlest detail. I’m hoping for the best but prepared for the worst cause I’m not sure what to expect.
Tell me about your favorite performance venues.
Honestly, I don’t have a favorite performance venue. I actually love all the venues because they all gave me a shot and opportunity when a lot of people wouldn’t. But, to name one dope spot I would like to say the Parlour Bar and Restaurant is very dope. Special Thanks to Airs Harris and Airs Entertainment.
What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?
Basically, just work hard, grind, make original content, lyrics and beats that best suits your originality. Don’t listen to anyone knocking your hustle. Stay positive, Stay focus, Stay motivated, Stay ambitious. Promote! Promote! Promote! Invest! Invest! Invest! Get out into the real world and get noticed. Stick with the ones who help you any way possible. Leave behind anyone who’s always with excuses and never willing to support you.
