Interview with Skeeze

September 23, 2019

What drew you to the music industry?

Growing up, I had a stuttering problem and still do in some scenarios. For some reason, when I talk in a rhythm I don’t stutter. So I just started writing music from there on.

Who are you inspired by?

Drake. He’s been running the game for 10+ years. Plus he’s an amazing lyrical story teller. Travis Porter. I love their strip club bounce, I try to recreate that every chance I get.

Please explain your creative process

Usually Van sends me a beat and I just think of a topic or he thinks of one. We come together on a catchy flow and I just start writing. 99% of the time it’s about women, my favorite subject.

What’s an average day like for you?

An average day for me right now is honestly just go to work, pay the bills, make music and get with as many women as I can. For the experience, and plus it gives me more stuff to write about.

Is there a hidden meaning in any of your music?

I wouldn’t say meaning, but the main goal in my music is to get everybody dancing and hopefully after the show they go home together and well, “you know” to my music.

Do you collaborate with others? What is that process?

Rarely collaborate. Would love too expand my collaboration catalogue. The process is to just feel the vibe and make a record that showcases everybody’s talent.

Please discuss how you interact with and respond to fans

I praise all my fans. I treat them like my personal friends. I try and keep up with their day-to-day lives etc. Be as normal as I can. Relatable.

What is your favorite part about this line of work? Your least favorite? Why?

Everything is my favorite. The writing, the creation, the shows, the travel, etc. I love everything.

Have you ever dealt with performance anxiety?

My first show, yes. But after that I’m so excited every time. Even if the crowd hated my stuff, I don’t care, I had a good time.

Tell me about your favorite performance venues

Man, I want to sell out arenas. I don’t know. I don’t have a favorite. I want to preform everywhere.

What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your

footsteps?

Follow your gut. If you feel good about the song, release it. If you don’t, don’t release it. Be you. Forget about what anybody else has to say. Stay low. Keep going.
